MyTimeToBlog

I'm a Marvel Comics fanatic. So much so that my leg, and back are dedicated to my favorite superheroes. The X-Men, The Punisher, Black Panther, Wolverine, and my favorite of all time: Spider-Man. He was bullied, a geek, hopelessly in love with Mary Jane, and troubled by the passing of his Uncle Ben.
That's why when the movies came out, I wanted to see them. In prison, we don't get to go to a movie theater. We wait months, sometimes years to watch a movie. I remembered the one time I stood up late into the night just to watch Punisher Warzone. I'm talking 3 AM, uncut on Syfy. Thankfully I didn't have to do that for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
I'll be honest, it's top five when it comes to Marvel movies. From top to bottom are: "Captain America: Winter Soldier", "Avengers: Infinity War," "Black Panther," "Spider-Man: No Way Home," and "Logan." Honorable mention: "Avengers: Endgame" and "Blade."
Even as Spider-Man: No Way Home landed in the fourth spot, it's the first Marvel movie to ever make me tear up. I kid you not, I'm in my cell at Augusta Correction Center, cross-legged, sobbing. Why? I'll be honest, it's the decision he had to make to save the multiverse.
Now if you have never seen the movie, I give you the rundown: Spider-Man asked Doctor Strange to do a magic spell to help him make people forget about Mysterio revealing to the world his secret identity. As this occurred, Spider-Man kept asking for more and more, until the spell got out of hand. This allowed the multiverse to open up and bring in numerous villains, and two other Spider-Men. The original Spider-Man fought to get everything back to normal...but it came to a head when the entire multiverse wanted to come to his universe. Doctor Strange told him he could fix the problem, but at the cost of everyone forgetting who Spider-Man was.
When I watched this movie, I was like HELL NO! He finally had the love of his life by his side. His best friend knew his secret identity, and helped him be the hero he became. Spider-Man went to them after fighting this epic battle with The Lizard, Dr. Octopus, Electro, Sandman, and the Green Goblin--who sadly killed Aunt May. They're together, happy to survive...but Spider-Man told them it wasn't over until he did something that would make them forget who he was. Mary Jane cried as she hugged the love of her life, begging him to fight to make her remember him. He promised he would, then he and his best friend did their secret handshake, then he left them alone.
Spider-Man saved the multiverse, but lost everything--and I mean everything. He wanted to go back and fight for his friends to remember him, even going as far as writing a letter. But as he stood in that coffee shop that Mary Jane worked at, watching her and his best friend, he folded the letter and placed it in his pocket. He asked a question about college to Mary Jane, who would be attending a prestigious one, then he walked out. He stood outside, taking one last look at them, then departed from their lives forever. I lost it right there, crying like a baby in my cell.
I found that being a hero comes at a cost. Could I pay that price? In my mind, I painted myself in that scenario where I had a choice to do the same. Mine was about the crime I committed. If I could go back in time and change what I did at the price of my family never remembering me, would I do it?
Many nights I lied in bed, wishing for a moment to erase my past. Lives were taken by my hand, ME. So, I wondered about it, thinking of a cost to show how much I want to change things. What I came up with was my family. I love them. I do, but for a chance to bring life back, I would. Why? By my losing them, it would be a constant reminder never to do anything criminal again.
A movie about a superhero made me think about the price one pays to be heroic. This may be hypothetical, but in life we make many sacrifices, not realizing this builds great character of being selfless. So I'll ask you this: if you have a chance to do something for the betterment of humanity, what would you be willing to sacrifice for it?
