A few hours ago, I entered the cell of a fellow writer, where we discussed our writings. He and I have done this several times, but today things were different. How? Now that's the interesting part of all this. You see, I received an email from someone close to my heart, disclosing that a former offender wrote something I needed to read.

What that was was a post about fighting with your all about getting out of prison. This man shared some very intelligent points, and as I read what he revealed, I took that with me into my writing friend's cell. You see, knowledge must be shared at all times.

While sitting on a chair, I opened up to him about what I read. I shared that we gotta knock on all the doors, to the point that they'll have to let us in. When they do, they'll see the man, but once we open our mouth, they'll see a leader, a scholar, a brother that has his head on straight.

I talked about my mentor, Calvin Arey. This man, who did time in the 70s, reached back inside and gave me a part of him. So much so, that his impact has made me grow beyond my wildest expectations. That's why my writing friend had his ears wide open because I'm doing for him as Calvin has done for me. Knowledge is power.

What else I disclosed was that we can't have miserable people and complainers around us. That energy doesn't affect us, because we know the signs. What we have in our corner are men, the kind that have a foundation in faith, are purpose-driven and can smile in prison daily, no matter what.

We know the negative mindset because we were once those broken men. That's why he can say, "Praise Allah," and me, "Praise Yahweh." Our faith has altered our state of being. We were young-minded kids who thought a balled-up fist could extinguish the problems of the day, but those sore fists only reminded us of our shame.

We're in his cell, growing ourselves beyond the walls around us. The smiles we shared in that moment made us abundantly hopeful because we recognized we're on our way somewhere great.

This friend, who I have been close to from my heydays as a lost soul, has my back in all things great. He opened up about his struggles, his dreams, and finding a Queen. I love his energy, and to have it in my twenty-six year of confinement, I'm beyond blessed.

This conversation we had lasted about half an hour. It grew us both spiritually, and mentally. We ignited our light with words from a former offender, who just came on our podcast with wisdom that gifted us up another rung on the ladder of life.

What you have read, I pray it inspired you. Words have power. What you say with them can build or destroy. Choose wisely on your podcast called Life. Choose wisely.
